LUNA ROSSA PARTICIPATES IN THE SPECTACULAR “BRIDGE RIDER” FEAT OF SEAN MACCORMAC
The Italian team contributed to the success of a sporting challenge that rewrote the history of skysurfing
Sean MacCormac became the first skysurfer ever to slide onto the cables of the iconic San Francisco Bay Bridge, and behind the Red Bull athlete’s achievement was also Luna Rossa. Following a long skysurfing descent, MacCormac touched the bridge’s cables, sliding along them for several seconds before spiral turning and landing on a floating platform positioned beneath the structure.

Fulfilling this seemingly impossible challenge required cutting-edge technical equipment: the exclusive high-tech board with which MacCormac jumped from a helicopter at 1676.4 meters above the California bay was the result of the collaboration between the Luna Rossa team and Prada Linea Rossa, combining technology and style.
To cope with the specific demands of such a highly complex maneuver, the board boasts a special construction with a honeycomb core combined with layers of carbon fiber to provide maximum reactivity and control during the flight stage. The high-density yet lightweight polyethylene base was chosen to withstand the abrasion caused by contact with the bridge’s metal cables. For a more durable and seamless finish, the surface featured painted graphic designs instead of adhesive materials.
The fine-tuning of every detail in the design process drew on the engineering expertise that the Luna Rossa team has developed throughout its America’s Cup competitions, proving that even the most extreme challenges are overcomable through a combination of research, function, and design. Additionally, Prada Linea Rossa provided high-performance garments and accessories to support MacCormac during his challenge, blending textile innovation with practical, cutting-edge aerodynamic design.

«This project brings a dream to life», said MacCormac. «In my profession, I have the benefit of seeing some of the world’s most amazing architecture from different perspectives, and I’ve often found myself daydreaming about what might be possible. To be able to slide along the cables of the iconic Bay Bridge brings this vision to life – it’s incredible being part of the full team effort to make this project a reality, from the collaboration with Prada Linea Rossa and board design with the Luna Rossa team to the countless hours of training, repetition and preparation that made us ready for this moment».
