LUNA ROSSA AT THE 1000 MIGLIA
Team members behind the wheel of the historic Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint
A surprising experience, unexpected emotions, and intense sensations: the Luna Rossa team members who took part in the 2025 1000 Miglia have no doubt—it truly is the most beautiful and iconic road race in the world.
In light of the partnership signed with the car manufacturer Alfa Romeo for the 38th America’s Cup, the team was invited to participate in the 43rd edition of the 1000 Miglia aboard the legendary 1956 Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint, a highlight of the Stellantis Heritage collection and usually kept at the Arese Museum.
The 2025 edition of the 1000 Miglia, one of the most attended ever, saw the participation of over 400 classic cars from 29 countries, covering a route of about 1,900 kilometers, starting and finishing in Brescia. The figure-eight-shaped course retraced the historic path of the first twelve editions of the world’s most famous road race.
The Luna Rossa team members who took turns—alternating as driver and navigator—behind the wheel of the Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint during the five scheduled stages were: Maria Vittoria Marchesini and Ruggero Tita; Giulia Conti and Sara Paesani; Rocco Falcone and Guido Gallinaro; Alice Linussi and Vittorio Bissaro; Umberto Molineris and Jacopo Plazzi.
Accustomed to competing aboard “flying,” hyper-technological boats that race across the water at 50 knots, steered by joysticks, control panels, and digital screens, the sailors were transported back in time and learned to face a very different but equally fascinating reality.
The 1000 Miglia challenged them in every way: from the evocative “stamping ritual,” to dawn wake-up calls, to long transfers along narrow, winding roads through mountain passes, hills, plains, and timeless villages.
Driving a classic car—with no power steering or electronic aids—turned out to be anything but easy and required great focus, sensitivity, and team spirit: the same essential qualities needed to race an America’s Cup AC75.
Immersed in the timeless allure of Italian automotive history, the Luna Rossa sailors embraced this adventure with enthusiasm, curiosity, and dedication, rediscovering, in the dust of country roads crowded with spectators and enthusiasts, their own passion for challenge and competition.
